The Gang of Five

Well we had a few folks turn out for the backsaw sawing fundamentals workshop last Friday evening.  I believe a good time was had by all.  We spent some time discussing saw tooth geometry, got to see Dohnn’s nice Disston #3 saw vise, and played around with a number of different back saws.

For those of you who did not make it, and are looking for some pointers on sawing, check out Chris Schwarz’s blog entry How to Saw.  If you enjoy St. Roy, don’t miss this episode with Chris Schwarz.

If you are interested in saw sharpening some nice tutorials can be found at Vintage Saws and the Norse Woodsmith.  Since we talked about sloped gullets, you might want to read Leif’s discussion here.

I would love some feedback from the membership.  Is a Friday night class not a good time for folks, is it the holiday season, or was the topic just not of interest?  Please leave a comment below.

I had a great time and learned a lot. Friday evening works for me as does Saturday or even Sunday afternoon. Kudos to Jonathan for hosting this session. I am like a sponge when it comes to any topic concerning hand tools, power tools, shop made tools & jigs, tool comparison reviews, shop skills (like sharpening), etc.

    Thanks for a great time.
